WCMC-Q Researchers Unlock Genetic Secrets of Date Palm
"An important step for our biomedical research program..."
Researchers at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar have mapped a draft version of the date palm genome, unlocking many of its genetic secrets. “We have generated a draft DNA sequence and initial assembly of the date palm using the most advanced technology,” says Joel Malek, director of the Genomics Laboratory at WCMC-Q.
Essay Competition Inspires Qatar's WCMC-Q has launched its 2nd Annual High School Essay Contest as part of its efforts to engage young students in the medical and healthcare fields. The competition is open to all high school students in Qatar.

It’s pretty much unanimous. The great teachers make their lectures really interesting and really care about their students. That was the verdict of the students who voted for this year’s best teachers.
Professor’s Farewell Poetry Packs A farewell poetry reading by a senior professor drew a full-house crowd, including admiring students, to hear the second presentation in the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar’s April Literary Lecture Series. Peter Fortunato, poet, performer and senior literature lecturer at WCMC-Q, shared memories of his four years in Doha and the poems they inspired as well as thoughts on poetry itself.

Medical Education Day Celebrates HMC and WCMC-Q Partnership
There was plenty of applause at the second annual Medical Education Day as physicians from Hamad Medical Corporation and WCMC-Q celebrated the residents and fellows who graduated from HMC training programs and acknowledged the dedicated work of the HMC physicians who served as preceptors to guide and supervise them along the way.
